My name is Alan Lepofsky.   While I am an IBM employee, I want to be clear, this is not an official IBM web site.  My hope is to share with you some of the knowledge I've gained from a decade of using Notes and Domino.

I started with IBM Canada in 1993 as a university co-op student.  The team I joined deployed a Notes based (on OS/2) opportunity management system for sales teams across the country, arguably one of the first deployments of Notes within IBM.  After IBM acquired Lotus and Notes became the standard collaboration platform within IBM, I helped architect some of the initial rules for IBM's internal Notes network.   Next I moved into a division of IBM Global Services, where I worked on the architecture and deployment of many of IBM Canada's outsourced Domino accounts.

In 2001 I moved from Toronto to Boston to work at Lotus headquarters.  My main two duties at that time were helping run a council of IBM's largest Notes/Domino customers, and working on Lotusphere.  While some of my greatest memories come from being part of those Lotusphere keynote teams, I decided to jump into the business side of things, and around the launch of Notes/Domino 6 I began working as the Domino Offerings Manager.  My responsibilities there included licensing, pricing, working with product managers and developers on determining features of future versions, etc.   Up next, I switched from the business side to marketing, where I was responsible for the internal (for IBM) and external (customers, press, partners, analysts, etc) material created for the family of Notes/Domino products.

In late 2004 I transferred out of the Lotus division to work in IBM's Business Partner organization.  IBM's success depends greatly on the success of our partners, so this was a great opportunity to learn about this area of the business.

After more than a decade of work, it was time for me to spend some quality "Alan" time.   I decided to take two months off, and in December 2005 and January 2006 I travelled to New Zealand and Australia.  While two months may seem like a short time for some world travelers, it is a really long vacation by North American standards!  In some ways I regret not trying to take a year or so off, and really see more of the world, but I really enjoy my life back home, so it was ok coming back to it.

My return to Boston also marked my return to the Lotus division of IBM, where my current assignment is working on Lotus Strategy and Market Intelligence.

Outside of work, I keep very active, and fill my time with a variety of sports.  I am addicted to spinning classes, and I play ultimate frisbee, tennis, volleyball, ski, and both snowboard and rockclimb terribly!   If I'm going to spend my day at the keyboard, I need to spend my free time keeping my body and soul in shape.   I also am a want-to-be photographer, here are some of my photos.

I hope this site helps you, and I look forward to the conversations it generates.
