Calendar Preferences - Display Part 3
A few weeks ago I started a series of blog
entries around the Calendar and Scheduling preferences. I covered
Calendar
Preferences Basics, Calendar
Preferences - Display Part 1,
and Calendar
Preferences - Display Part 2.
Today I'll continue with part 3 of the Calendar Preferences.
Unlike the tips mentioned above, the settings we are going to look at in
this tip don't affect just your mail file. Instead, these will determine
how calendars are displayed in all the Notes application you use (that
have calendars of course). Therefore, instead of accessing them via
your mail file's "Tools - Preferences" dialog box (which determines
settings for just that specific database), we access these "global
settings" via the Notes "File - Preferences - User Preferences"
menu option. This will bring you to the dialog box shown below,
where you click on the "International Tab", then "Calendar".
The first three settings; Calendar view starts on, Date picker starts on,
and Popup calendar start on, allow you to configure which day you prefer
to think of as the start of the week. Some people consider the week
as Sunday through Saturday, I personally think of my week as running from
Monday to Sunday. In the screen capture above, you can see I've choose
Monday for all three of the settings. Each of these settings can
contain a different day, you do not have to set them all to the same value,
the choice is up to you.
The first "Calendar view..." instructs Notes to display Monday
as the first day of the week in the various "Week" and "Month"
calendar views. The second "Date picker..." refers to the
calendar navigator displayed to the left of the calendar views.
As you can see below, both of these begin with Monday as per my selections.
The third "Popup calendar..." refers to the popup that is displayed
after clicking on the calendar icon when entering a value into a date field.
Again, you can see below that mine begins with Monday.
The next setting "Date picker/Popup calendar direction" enables
you to select if the dates should be shown "Left to Right", or
"Right to Left". This is useful in certain international
settings where languages are read in different directions. Below
you can see what the items look like with "Right to Left" selected.
and
The Secondary Calendar setting allow you to add the dates from either the
Hijri, Hebrew, or Japanese six day calendar to the various calendar views.
For example, below you can see that today's date is 27th of Adar2
in the year 5765 on the Hebrew calendar.
The final section for "Display an additional time zone" was previously
covered in one of my first tips {link},
so I won't repeat it here.
I hope these setting help you configure Lotus Notes to your own personal
preferences.
