My last blog entry started a series of
tips in which I am going to cover the various options available in Calendar
Preferences. I started by covering the Basics
tab, in this tip I am go to start going over the Display tab.
The Display tab is divided into two main sections, "How the Calendar View is Displayed" and "Displaying Calendar Entries in Mail Views". Each of these sections contains a great deal of information, so I am going to cover each of them in a separate blog entry.
Additionally, you will notice that between the two sections there is text that says "To set additional calendar preferences, including display an alternate time zone, choose File - Preferences - User Preferences and click International - Calendar." I am going to cover that in a third blog entry.
Below is a picture of the top half of the "Calendar & To Do - Display" tab.

Let's examine how the various settings available here affect what you see on screen. With the settings as shown above, when I open my calendar (to the one day view for example) I see my calendar as shown in the image below. You can see the first time slot shown is 9:00 am, and that each hour is divided in half, or into 30 minute time slots.

When you scroll up and down the calendar view to see more of the day, you notice it is divided into three sections. The first area (grey) is shown from midnight until the defined beginning of the work day. The second area (white) covers the times between the beginning to the end of the defined work day. The third area (grey) is the end of the defined work day to midnight.

By changing the preferences to have the beginning of the work day at 10:00 am, and display 15 minute time slots, my calendar now looks like this:

Moving on to the next preference, on the right hand side of the top section of the "Calendar & To Do - Display" tab, you can choose which days to display in the various "Work Week" views. For example, say you work only Monday to Thursday (lucky you!) you can choose just those four days, and then when you switch to one of the "Work Week" views:

the calendar will only display Monday to Thursday.

So go ahead, customize your calendar to display the specific working hours, time slots, and days of the week to suit your exact schedule. You find working with Notes C&S much more enjoyable, when it is configured for your exact needs.
