Since everyone is talking about the speed and features of Google's new Chrome browser, I've decided to review the icon. With all of the great logo designs Google has created over the years, I am disappointed that they came up with a logo that looks so much like Windows Media Player.
Google, how could you. This alone, is reason enough to stick with Firefox. :-)

Well this is, indeed, a new angle! :-)
Nice spot, too. I guess I hadn't compared the two, since I don't really use WMP.
I knew I had seen that logo before. No wonder it gave me an icky feeling!
googe? >:)
my kids will be excited that the Google Chrome logo looks like a Pokeball, and if it loads Pokemon flash video sites faster. such is my life.
I didn't make the connection between the icons either... When I first saw it I thought it looked like the old electronic game "Simon"... the windows icon looks even more like that game due to the 4 colors...
Actually, the WM Player icon is EXACTLY like the old Simon electronic game (except backwards, like everything else from MS):

Beyond the logo - Anybody else having issues with Chrome and DWA?
You are kidding, right? The logo is beautifully designed and enhances the "Google logo" colors.
Yeah, who's using vmplayer anyway? Yup, there was a few issues with DWA...
@Alan,
I see you learned something (finally) about logo design. It's only now that Lotus realized how poor the Notes 8 icons are/were. :-)
Hey, I had nothing to do with our logo designs, don't vent at me! ;-)
I think the chrome icon looks neither like Simon or WMP. First of all, Simon had four colours around the circle, where Chrome has 3. Yeah, i guess it looks like media player, but I would say WMP is the Simon copy-cat. No-one really owns the four colours Red, Yellow, Green, Blue. The "Google" on the start page has been multi-coloured like it is now for as long as I can remember. Since Windows 95, Microsoft has been colour coding their programs with the big 4. So...the question I have to ask, is what is the significance of the blue sphere with red green yellow surrounding, if any? Maybe an abstract? or just whatever..LOL
