This tip shows you how to send email messages to groups contained in your Personal Address Book, and prevent each recipient from seeing the list of other recipients' names.

Compose a new email message and click on "Delivery Options..."

Image:Do Not expand personal groups

On the Basic tab, click on "Do not expand personal groups"

Now when you send the email, the recipients will only see the name of the group, not all the members.

Combine this tip, with the one where I showed you how to Add Recipients to Group in Address Book, and you should be all set, and ready to email.

This is a preference setting in the OpenNTF template, instead of being something you have to do on each and every message.

Alan, So it looks like you customized your Memo form? I see "sort" and "reply to" check box. Do tell. :)

    Alan,

Thanks for pointing out this GREAT tip!

An unanticipated behavior that we are experiencing when our users have local copies of Domino Directories (of any flavor) concatenated to their personal address book is that all groups are treated as if they were personal groups when used as an addressee in a mail message: they all expand! By checking this box users can get back to the behavior that they expect and desire.

I second the motion to make this selection some sort of a default/preference.

User friendly is never good enough; we need to strive for user seductive!

    Bob

    Alan

Is there any way of achieving this with Notes 6.5?

    regards

    Colin

    Hi Colin, yes you can, but you must make changes to your mail template: { Link }

Is there a way to expand personal groups? When I begin to Use Notes 7, in default, this option is checked. However when someone want to use the "reply all", the user group can't be found. it's a little annoying, so is there a way to expand personal groups in default, Thanks.

Andy, the default in Notes 7 IS to expand personal groups, hence this tip about NOT expanding them. You should check with your company's Admins, it sounds like they may have modified your company's mail template to have the "do not expand" checked by default.

It seems that there are "different" defaults in Notes 7. My Notes 7 installation also has the "Do not expand personal groups" checked as default (i.e. my default is NOT expanding them)- and I do not find a way to disable that.

"Another Notes User" are you saying when you go into the dialog box, the option to check it on/off is missing, or greyed out? Have you asked your admin team if they turn this off via policy inside your company?

Is the group in your personal address book, or the company's directory? Which part of the directions above do not work for you?
