How do you like your Chiclets?

I admit it, I use the Lotus Notes Workspace,
not Bookmarks. I simply prefer the "visual orientation"
for accessing my folders and databases, versus the way bookmarks (in Notes
or in web browsers) are shown in a list. Similarly I access several
icons from my Windows and Mac desktops, and I like Thumbnail or Tile views
in Windows Explorer!
Ok, so now with that out of the way, I thought I'd point out two of the settings you can use to control the way the database icons appear on your Lotus Notes Workspace.
From your Workspace, opening the View menu you can select or deselect Show Unread and Show Server Names.

The various combinations of these two settings can result in showing both...

Showing just the unread count...

Showing just the server name...

Or showing neither. Currently I am using this "clean and simple" look, since I know all my databases have unread documents!

There is also a secret option! If you hold down CTRL+SHIFT and select View - Show Server Names, Notes will display the file name for the database. Well, sort of. As you can see below, it does not really work all that well, I guess that is why it is hidden!

So are you wondering about the title of this post? Often people refer to the database icons as "Chiclets" since the little squares resemble the famous gum. I don't recommend chewing your screen though.

As a teaser I'll leave you with this... just wait until you see the Workspace in Hannover! I believe Mary Beth has plans to blog about it in the future.
