Sametime 7.5’s new UI

This morning I installed the latest internal version of Sametime 7.5, and had the pleasure to discover an enhancement to the user interface.

Borrowing the legal text from the Inside Lotus Blog: "The following contains information about the future direction of IBM products, but it not a commitment that IBM will deliver specific features or capabilities, or that IBM will deliver any product releases at all.  Future product direction, dates, features or capabilities can change at any time without notice. The screen shots in the blog represent non-production build and the UI is subject to change."

One of the greatest things about the Sametime 7.5 chat client is that it does not just provide a "vertical contact list".   It also allows you to easily access additional features such as news, weather, stocks, gas prices, note pads, etc.

In the picture below, on the left you can see the new "stacked" method for accessing these features, where on the right is the older way which displayed the tabs horizontally.   The new way allows me to open/close the windows easily, and also allows me to keep my Connect client much smaller on my screen.

Before you ask, I don't know the date for the public beta!  I'll blog about it when I know, as I am sure will Ed Brill and the Inside Lotus team.
