Scheduling meetings between calendar systems
I've often been asked by people what happens
when you send a calendar invitation from one mail system to another. So
today I thought I'd show you an example scenario where I send a meeting
invitation from my Lotus Notes email at work to my home mail account where
I use Macintosh Mail and Calendar.
When I compose the meeting invitation in Lotus Notes, I add my internet address in the invitee field, just as I would add the name of my peers at work.

Clicking the "Save and Send" action button causes the Domino server to send an email to the invitee (my home account) with an "internet calendar" file (*.ics) attached.
Opening my mail client on my home computer, I see a new message in my Inbox. When I open the message, there is an ics file attached. Clicking on that attachment adds the meeting to my calendar.

From there I can set my status as Tentative, Accept, or Refuse and then reply to the meeting chair.

Back in Lotus Notes, I receive a response from the invitee which also contains a *.ics file with the acceptance information.

When I open the email I view/open the *.ics attachment, and then import the Acceptance.

This creates a response in my Inbox, just like the meeting responses I get back from Lotus Notes users.

As the meeting chair, I can now see the invitee's status has been updated in the meeting.

I hope this helps demonstrate to you how you can send/receive meeting notices form people that use different calendar systems.
