Upgrade Folder Design

Each time IBM releases a new version of Lotus Notes, there are enhancements in the mail template that affect how the various views and folders display email.   A few examples are: additional toolbar icons for Chat, new columns for showing Reply/Forward and To/Bcc indicators, and colour coding rows based on sender.  When the design of your mail file is upgraded, the personal folders you have created do not automatically have their design refreshed.  That means when you move from folder to folder looking at messages, some folders may have the design from an older version of the mail template.  This is easily remedied, as Notes provides an agent which will upgrade your personal folders for you.

With your mail file open, choose "Upgrade Folder Design" from the Actions menu

You will be presented with a dialog box asking you if you want to Automatically or Manually carry our the folder design upgrade.   In most cases Automatic will be what you want to choose.

If you like working with more advanced choices, you can choose Manual, and you will then be presented a list of all your folders allowing you to choose which to upgrade, and also which new folder design to give them.

I was reminded of this feature due to my recent upgrade to Lotus Notes 7.    While I don't use many folders, I did noticed that a few a mine had the Notes 6 design and some had 6.5's.  I ran this agent and now all of my mail file has the Note 7 design.   So after you upgrade, make sure to upgrade the design of your folders.
