You can help change the world

While the primary function of this blog is to help the awareness and education of Lotus Notes/Domino, since it is my blog and I therefore make the rules, I thought it would be ok for me to deviate for a minute for a good cause.

Over the last few weeks I've been reading a lot about the G8 meetings, the Live 8 concert, the unfortunate events in London, and various other "world events" taking place.   Naturally I reflected upon "What am I doing to help"?   So since we (the readers of this blog) are all technology people, I thought a good topic from me to write about would be the World Community Grid.

From the home page: "World Community Grid's mission is to create the largest public computing grid benefiting humanity. Our work is built on the belief that technological innovation combined with visionary scientific research and large-scale volunteerism can change our world for the better. Our success depends on individuals - like you - collectively contributing their unused computer time to this not-for-profit endeavor."

IBM plays a crucial role in this program which was launched mid-November of 2004.  There are currently over 70,000 members, maybe I can help that number to grow a bit.   If you are interested in helping, please take a moment and look at the site, and if you feel like contributing please do so.

I return you now (well, in my next entry) to your regularly scheduled Notes tips.

I have been donating my idle CPU time to Seti (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) since a long time. Maybe i can contribute here as well.

    Thanks.
